Pitch-Out: John Liberty by Brian Meyers 3/25/2011

Next up on the Pitch-out express is PF Flyers star, John Liberty.  Eager to sit down for the interview, we met at his favorite downtown bar; Olde Peninsula.  I was excited for this interview, as little is known about this new KWL sensation with the exception of finding his dreamy picture weekly in the Kalamazoo Gazette (no, not in the wanted section).

John’s humble beginnings started in Ann Arbor Michigan (or as many like to call it “The Land of Opportunities).  Just like many young American Boys, his summers consisted of GI Joe’s, Nerf gun fights and Baseball.  John flourished as an athletic youth and he shared many stories of his

success, most notably his Game-Tying double in Little League that featured a Kirk Gibson style fist pump.  Post fist pump, JLib went on to play 4 years of Varsity baseball and received MVP honors during his junior year.

Always considering himself to be a good story teller John left A.A. (Ann Arbor silly!) and enrolled at Western Michigan University, perusing a degree in journalism/broadcast cable production.  Fully engulfed in the freedom of writing, so began his hippy/drifter days!  After finishing up school, he picked up a few interesting internships including one in Birmingham Alabama covering a football team later seen on “MTV-Two a days”.

With a full beard and a ponytail down his back, John headed back to Michigan to freelance for the Gazette.  After saving $3000, John and his then-girlfriend/now wife Beth took off on a 9-week trip to Europe.  After returning from Europe, John bounced around couch to couch before landing a full-time job at the Gazette writing the weekly Ticket section.

Coming off his rookie season, John is looking to build on his early success in the KWL.  In his rookie season, Lib hit 16 homeruns and drove in 45 runs.  He won the Allstar MVP award after hitting a 3-run go ahead homer and his solid play had him in the top 5 for AL MVP.

Who do you think killed Jacques Rimmier?
Glenn Beck

Which Everett Brother would you rather make-out with?  Steve or Mason?

What team do you least like to face in the KWL? Why?
The Squirrel Herders. See results of the Fall Ball title game.

If you could meet one celebrity, who would it be and why?
Joe Pesci, so I could punch him in the neck for giving the perception that all short men have anger issues.

What else do you do for fun besides wiffleball?
Disc golf, camping, vegetable garden, watching sports and wishing I was on “American Pickers”
