6/27/11
2011 Homerun Derby Contest
Eight contestants threw their hat in the mix for the 2011 Homerun Derby; 4 from the AL and 4 from the NL. From the American League; Zac Adams, Bryan Jennings, Steve Everett and John Liberty (Top Row, Reft to Right). Hitting for the National League; Kurt Marlowe, Mason Everett, Adam Kuzmin and Adam Nash (Bottom Row, Left to Right).

The top 4 hitters moved on to the second round with the Homeruns from the first round carrying over. After some big swings and long distance shots, four advanced on; John Liberty (6), Adam Nash (7), Steve Everett (7) and Kurt Marlowe (9).

The order for the second round was highest to lowest. Kurt, who carried over 9 homers from round one appeared to be gassed from the days events, only hitting 4 more for a total of 13. Next up was Adam Nash, who put on a show that no one will soon forget! On his way to finish the second round with a total of 26 homeruns, Nash pounded out 19 dingers in a single round, dismantling Scuba's record of 13 from 2010. Not to be out done, the defending champ picked up where Nash left off, as he slugged 13 homers of his own for a total of 20, which eliminated Kurt from the competition. Hitting last, John Liberty needed a ridiculous minimum of 14 homeruns in the round to even force sudden death. He was unable to even muster a single shot, ending his run for the 2011 Derby Championship.

The Finals featured Steve Everett of the Industrials and Adam Nash of the Diablos. As the defending champ, Steve opted to hit last in the final round. First at the dish and starting over with 0, Adam started out hot with 3 straight homers. He cooled off slightly, but tied a couple more good multiple streaks together enough to bring his final round total to 11. Steve started off his final round a little slow hitting 1 homerun with three outs, before catching fire and slapping 6 more before he reach 5 outs. Motoring along, determined to become the first to repeat at the derby, Steve launched 2 more homeruns to bring his total to 10 with 1 out remaining. After taking a couple of pitches, he hit a towering fly ball that fell just ten feet short of tying Nash.

Adam Nash put on the best showing of any prior derby, as he slugged 37 homeruns total! His 11 jacks in the final round were just enough to fend off the defending champ, capturing his first derby crown!

Congratulation to the 2011 Derby Champion, Adam Nash.

Totals:
Adam Nash 37
Steve Everett 30
Kurt Marlowe 13
John Liberty 6
Adam Kuzmin 5
Zac Adams 4
Bryan Jennings 4
Mason Everett 1
