NL Playoff Picture Partly Cloudy. 7/29/2011

Heading into last night, the Belly Itchers were locked as the #1 seed and the Waterfalls were in, just not sure where.  On the cusp of making the playoffs were; 5 Dollar Pitchers, Diablos, Scared Hitless and the Golden Ponyboys.

Scared Hitless looking for a division title, but more importantly a playoff birth, sent Ayres and Kuzmin to the hill to face the Waterfalls.  The Waterfalls took control of game 1 on a 3-run homer by Smorch and Hitless never got within 3 runs of the lead.  Hitless now focused on at least forcing another play-in game, sent Kuzmin to the mound.  After another scoreless gem from Adam, Hitless finished 15-13 tied with the Golden Ponyboys who swept the Sidewinders. With the game one win, the Waterfalls locked up their first every Division Crown as they secured the NL South with a 17-11 final record.

The Diablos needed to sweep the 5 Dollar pitchers or face the outcome of a series of play-in games to determine their fate.  Game one, the Diablos secured with a couple of homeruns and a good pitching outing from Detamore.  After trailing by 4 runs heading into the bottom of the 6th, the Diablos rallied to tie the score on a controversial call.  A couple batters later, they brought home the winning run.  The Diablos finished 15-11 and locked up the #3 seed.

With identical records of 15-13, Hitless and the Ponyboys playoff fate comes down to a Game 29 Play-In game.  Scared Hitless holds the 2nd Tie Breaker (Record against Division Opponents) and will have home field advantage.  The exact time and place of the game is yet to be determined, but should be known before the end of today!

Play-In game scheduled for Monday Night (8/1) at Township Park.  Game to start at 6:30pm.
