ALCS Recap. PFF vs. IND

Gone was the heat and humidity making for an unusually mild evening. Weather in the high 70's and full of sunshine set the stage for this year's American League Championship series between the 20-8 Flyers and 20-8 Industrials. Winning would head on to represent the AL in the 2011 Township Series!

Game 1:
Pf Flyers 1 , Industrials 2 F/6 Box
W: Brian Meyers
L: Ira Cohen
HR: Brian Meyers

Game 1 of the ALCS matchup between the Flyers and Indies was sure not to disappoint.  Ira, who is 3-0 in his career against the Indies, took the hill for the Flyers.  He would face long time ace, Brian Meyers in what was sure to be a low scoring matchup.  The Flyers would plate the first run in the top of the 2nd when Liberty gapped a ball with runs on 1st and 2nd.  The Flyers would end up loading the bases before Meyers struke out the side.  Following a lead off Double by Zac Adams, Burnell would hit an opposite field single running in the tying run during the 3rd.  The game would remain tied 1-1 as Ira and Meyers found their groove and the game would head to extras.  With one out in the 7th, Meyers would launch a 3-1 pitch over the left field mini-monster to secure the win for the Indies.

Brian Meyers hits a walk-off blast in Game 1.

Game 2:
Industrials 0 , Pf Flyers 3 F/6 Box
W: Justin James
L: Pat Kean
HR: Justin James, John Liberty

Giving himself run support early, Justin James would homer on the first pitch the Flyers saw from Pat Kean, putting the Flyers up one right out of the gate.  Justin would work masterfully on the mound, limiting the Industrials to only 4 total base runners over the next five innings.  With a man on in the bottom of the 5th, John Liberty would delivery some insurance runs when he hit his 6th homer of the 2011 playoffs.  Justin James would strike out 9 on the way to his 2nd postseason win.

Justin James shuts the Indies offense down.

Game 3:
Pf Flyers 5, Industrials 3 F/6 Box
W: Jeremy Martin
L: Zac Adams

With a kidney stone in tow, Adams would start out rusty in the top of the first inning.  After walking the bases loaded, a misplayed ball in left by Meyers would open the flood gates for the Flyers as they would put up 4 runs to lead off the game. Burnell would relieve Adams in the 2nd and toss four much needed scoreless innings. The Indies would get back into the game with a Meyers homer in the 3rd, an Rbi ground out by Kean and an Rbi single by Burnell.  With one inning remaining, Kean would take over for a winded Burnell in the 6th and toss a quick and scoreless top half.  Jers would get two quick outs as he hoped to avoid facing Brian with a chance to tie or win the game.  But a 2 out walk to Burnell would bring Meyers to the plate.  The tension in the air was high, but after 3-2 count, Jers would get Brian to swing through a high outside fastball for the final out.

Kean pitches to Liberty in the final inning.

The phenomenal 2011 campaign by the Flyers will now advance to their first ever Township Series. Their prize for getting there? To face the sizzling 23-5 Belly Itchers!  The Township Series begins on Monday August 15th at Flesher West.
