Meyers Continues Homerun Barrage. by Daryl Hutson 5/29/12

If you’ve ever taken time to dig through the KWL record book, you will find his name near the top of many records including most of the career hitting totals.  Being a main stay in the league leaders each season has put Meyers’s name in the discussion for one of the top 10 hitters in this league, but so far in 2012, he’s making a case for the top slot!

Only 8 games into the season, Brian’s numbers look nearly fictional at the bottom of the home page, nearly double the next highest total in Homeruns (8) and Runs batted in (17).  “You have more homeruns than our entire team!” commented Jim VanTreese of the Chuckers before the Memorial Day showdown between his team and the Indies. But the Chuckers are not the only team, after slugging 5 more homeruns Monday night, Meyers has more homeruns than 11 teams across the KWL!
“I’m just aiming for 20.” commented Meyers, “I’ve never been able to get past 19 in a season”; a number that he should be able to attain with only 6 more to hit and 2/3 of the season left on the schedule.

Averaging a homerun every 3.64 at-bats, Brian has 14 homeruns on the season.  With 20 games to play, many are starting to wonder if hitting 30 homeruns in a single season can be done.  Bryan Jennings, of the Gentlemen, holds the season record of 26 which he set in 2011.  Prior to that, Bryan slugged 25 in 2008 and is the only hitter in the KWL history to hit 25 or more homeruns in a single season.
